About Us

Our professional ‘Practice’ Dr David Stuart Hill Chartered Consultancy is regulated by the RICS and where it has been in private chartered surveying consultancy since 1987.

Over that time frame since its inception our chartered professionals have undertaken over 1,000 building and structural surveys and reports for prospective purchasers and vendors and where those properties have ranged from one-bedroom terraced properties to eighteen-bedroom residences ranging in price from £75,000 to £3.50 million in value. Indeed, with our inherent time-served knowledge and surveying experience built up over those years, we have provided full term satisfaction for our clients and where we have always told it as it is when it comes to property surveys, whether good or whether there are any major building and structural issues. Indeed, we pride ourselves in providing a property reporting service that we and others consider to be second to none, as our professionals and associates are all qualified RICS chartered building surveyors, CABE chartered building engineers, ICE chartered civil engineers, IStruct.E chartered structural engineers, IET senior engineers and CIOB chartered builders that are underpinned with over 50-years in-depth experience within the building industry.

But although the practice’s chartered building and structural reports are the primary specialist service that we undertake for our clients, we have a very broad expertise in structural engineering and civil engineering together with other specialist areas (respectfully see our full listing of professional ‘surveying services’ and competences that the practice undertakes). Indeed, RICS chartered surveyors and other chartered building professionals use our practice’s services in these fields when structural concerns and other problem issues are determined by them.
In this way also our diversity of surveying experience combine with our long-term knowledge base within the industry, allows the practice to solve interdisciplinary problems and provide the peace-of-mind, not just for our own clients, but for the clients of other chartered professionals.

Surprisingly though even with this very extensive diversity of knowledge, we are a practice that is highly competitive in price with regard to our professional fees and where our rates are as competitive for smaller residences as they are for properties in excess of £1 million in value. Therefore, even though we are a practice that has one of the most in-depth knowledge bases in surveying practice within the Huddersfield and Yorkshire region, commissioning our practice is not restrictive in financial terms.

With regard to diversity also with regard to residential properties, the practice has undertaken surveys and reported on properties that were initially constructed in part in the mid 16th century at times to the modern properties of today and where even new properties we have found over the last 3-decades can have many defects when you look close enough. Overall, these residential properties have covered all housing and bungalow types from Victorian stone and brick faced terraced properties, stone and brick faced semi-detached properties and detached properties to quality apartments (converted mills and new apartments), post-war system built council properties, farmhouses and manor houses set in their own grounds.

But were it has to be stated additionally to the practice’s long-term surveying experience that we have also helped our clients when they have had the unfortunate experience of becoming involved with disputes with regard to their own properties with the former sellers and also with their former property surveyors and advisers; but where unfortunately again, many end up in the courts for resolution. In this respect out services as expert witness to the Courts has helped both claimants and defendants to win their cases and where in 32 years of court work the practice has never lost a case for both Claimants and Defendants and, even in the Court of Appeal in 2015 with an 'Appeal' against the ‘The Crown’, where the practice report was used by Lord Justice Treacy together with two other senior Justices. Indeed, added to this in over three-decades acting as surveying and building consultants, the practice has had no claims against its Professional Indemnity Insurance (PII) or had any structural or building failures.

Therefore, if any prospective client were to use the services of this practice we can assure them that we will guarantee full confidence in our chartered building and structural reports and which will tell them of the exact condition of any property that they are intending to purchase. For overall and since the practice commenced in 1987, we have taken the professional position of standing in the shoes of our clients and where we ask ourselves, would we buy the property concerned or not. Overall we respectfully consider that this professional standpoint has stood the practice in good stead professionally over the years and where it has provided the necessary peace-of-mind that our varied clients require…and rightly so in our minds as a property is usually the largest financial investment anyone ever makes.
