About Us

Helix Building Consultancy provides RICS Home Surveys and residential building surveying services across Trowbridge, Bath, Chippenham, Melksham, Devizes, Bradford-on-Avon, Frome, Warminster, Salisbury, Shaftesbury and the surrounding areas. Our services are led and delivered by an experienced RICS professional Building Surveyor who is also a member of the Residential Property Surveyors Association (RPSA), giving homebuyers and homeowners direct access to the professional inspecting their property.

We specialise in RICS Home Surveys for houses, bungalows and flats, including RICS Level 2 Home Surveys, often known as HomeBuyer Reports, and RICS Level 3 Home Surveys or Building Surveys. A Level 2 Home Survey is generally suited to conventional properties of standard construction that appear to be in reasonable condition. A Level 3 Home Survey provides a more detailed assessment and is generally appropriate for older, larger, altered, unusual or visibly deteriorated properties.

Our reports are thorough, clearly written and focused on the decisions a buyer needs to make. We identify significant defects, maintenance liabilities and safety risks, explain their likely causes and consequences, and provide practical and proportionate recommendations.

Rather than simply producing a list of problems, we explain what matters, what can wait and what the findings may mean for your purchase, repair budget and future maintenance. Reports include photographs and are written in straightforward language without unnecessary jargon or alarmist wording. This helps buyers understand the property and make an informed decision before committing to their purchase.

Helix also undertakes Single Fault Assessments and building pathology investigations where there is a particular concern rather than a need for a survey of the entire property. These focused inspections can investigate damp and mould, water ingress, roof leaks, cracking and building movement, condensation, timber decay, defective alterations and other failures within the building fabric.

We assess the available evidence, identify the most probable cause of the problem and advise on suitable repairs, monitoring or further specialist investigation. A Single Fault Assessment can also be useful where a defect has been identified in an earlier survey and more detailed investigation is required.

Clients receive an independent and personal service from initial enquiry through to completion of the report. You deal directly with an RICS professional building surveyor, and should you wish to discuss the findings, they can be explained in context.

Whether you are buying your first home, moving house or investigating a specific defect in a property you already own, Helix provides clear technical advice to help you understand the building, manage risk and decide what to do next.
