About Us

Howson Fell Ltd is a professional firm of Building Surveyors and Planning Consultants founded in 2025, built on the combined expertise of Jonathan Howson and Helen Stocks (née Fell). Though a young company, its foundations reach deep into the Lake District, where both founders were born and raised. Growing up among stone farmsteads, slate-roofed cottages, and the rugged Cumbrian fells has shaped their lifelong understanding of the region’s landscape, heritage, and rich architectural vernacular.

Created with a clear vision, Howson Fell Ltd brings together technical surveying knowledge with informed and practical planning insight. The firm provides clients with a holistic, reliable approach to pre-purchase property advice, drawing on more than fifteen years of experience gained both within Cumbria and further afield.

Operating throughout the Lake District and surrounding areas, the practice’s work is grounded in a genuine appreciation of local building traditions—from centuries-old farmhouses and traditional cottages to contemporary rural homes and larger estate properties. This regional insight ensures clients receive clear, tailored advice shaped by the unique character of each building.

Alongside this Lake District expertise, Jonathan brings extensive experience working in and around Manchester and Cheshire, having undertaken a diverse range of commercial and residential house surveys across urban, suburban, and rural settings. With an established base in Altrincham, Cheshire, Howson Fell Ltd is well placed to support clients across the North West, offering the same high standards of care, clarity, and professional insight to homeowners, investors, and businesses in both regions.

Today, the firm continues to strengthen its service by combining modern survey technology—such as drone-based roof inspections—with trusted, traditional surveying techniques. As a RICS-regulated practice, Howson Fell Ltd upholds the highest levels of accuracy, integrity, and professional standards. Supported by a reliable network of local engineers, architects, and contractors, the firm helps clients make confident, informed decisions at the very earliest stages of their property journey.

Whether you’re purchasing a Lakeland cottage, a Cheshire family home, a rural estate property, or a commercial building, Howson Fell Ltd offers local understanding, technical expertise, and dependable guidance you can trust.
